Youth Program 12-17

The Wildflower Filmmaker Youth Program will be an 8 week intensive course of 8 creatives. We will provide an intensive filmmaking course for the young creatives that will include the 3 aspects of filmmaking: 1) Pre-production 2) Production 3) Post-Production.

During the 8 weeks, we will develop 8 films (one by each creator) that reflects upon the concept of self-expression in whatever form that manifests for the young creative. The films may be documentary, experimental or narrative in format. The creators will work on their individual ideas but will form a film crew when it comes to the individual films being shot.

Each creator will be given a role on the film crew. The roles will include: director, writer, producer, cinematographer, boom operator/ sound recorder, art director and editor. The young creatives will alternate roles throughout the filmmaking process so that they will have the opportunity to explore as many roles as possible for the various films.

With the completion of the films, AWC will hold a public film festival to screen the films, followed by a reception. The young creatives will be asked to construct a speech based on their experience, why they chose their specific film topic and a personal reflection.

Wildflower Writers - TBD

Youth Program 12-17

The Wildflower Writers Youth Program will be a 4 week intensive course of 10 creatives.  We will provide an intensive course for the young creatives by delving into various writing mediums such as short story, novel, memoir, graphic novel, poetry and more.

We will spend the beginning of each class exploring different subject matters and crafting a collaborative story based on every creative's input. As the story progresses, we will start to string together more moments from personal experiences to fantasy, imagination and beyond to construct a narrative.  These exercises will give the young creatives tools to expand upon their own works and provide a space to ask questions and explore the possibilities of creating through words.

During the 4 weeks, each young creative will create their own book of works in whatever format that manifests. Upon the project’s completion, a book will be published of each creative's work showcasing the creative writings, exercises, notes, drawings, etc. as well as the final work.  These will be available for purchase at a public reception at AWC.

The young creatives will be asked to construct a speech based on their experience, why they chose the specific writing medium and a personal reflection at the public reception.

Community Workshops - TBD

While Amongst Wildflowers Creative programs have a program capacity, we want to make sure creatives within the community have the ability to share, explore and amplify their voice and self-expression as well.

AWC will provide weekly Community Workshop hours for community creatives to come and workshop their ideas, stories, films, etc and gain feedback from staff and fellow community creatives on how to bring their specific art to fruition.  AWC will provide Community Workshop hours for both Youth and Adults so that any creative will feel empowered and have as safe space for self-expression that surpasses all limitations.

The workshops will allow for open dialogues amongst creatives to get their projects on the ground as well as providing a bank of potential collaborators within the community.

AWC will also offer editing suite hours for those that don't have access to film and photo editing software or those that have questions about the post-production process, staff will be happy to assist.
